Alichino 3

The back of this volume says there will be a volume 4, but I don’t really believe them, so this is probably it.

MUCH better this time around. This volume did a really good job with coherent story and explaining some character motives. It really focused on Ryoki, and explained what he’s all about and why he appeared randomly, and also his contract with Myobi. I love both characters now, and it was explained so clearly I actually felt sympathy for them. I’m glad that was at least cleared up.

Alichino has a pretty straightforward story now that I look at it. The mangaka says it will be over when volume four comes out, which I believe… if volume four contained the rescue of Enju and the explanation on the entwined lives of Enju, Myobi, and the main character, everything would actually wrap up nicely, and I would really look back fondly on this series for being a decent fantasy story with great art.

Also… what the hell was up with those preview pages? They looked like really low-res scans that shouldn’t have been printed like that. Are those the actual quality of the page, or did the mangaka just e-mail some example pages to them, or what?

    Agree. The artwork is super awesome (so finely detailed I feel sorry for people who work on it…like 1 page/day) but the plot is kinda twisted.

    I think they didn’t want to put a high-res preview up. Perhaps coz the series is not so popular they don’t feel obliged to. And I’ve been waiting for that damn vol 4 for ages now!

    Yeah, I didn’t think a volume 4 was ever going to come out. The preview gave me hope, so at least we know she’s working on it, but it’s been a couple years now ^_^; I was really hoping for a volume 4 because it really does seem like some of the plot confusion would resolve itself and make this into a pretty decent series.

    Alichino has a volume 4???? O_0; Wow!! Gotta check that out. Thanks for the heads up. :)

    It’s not actually out yet, they just have preview pages in the back of volume 3 of the English edition and a promise that Shurei is working on the last volume. It hasn’t appeared in two years, but maybe it will come out… they just got new volumes of INVU and Tarot Cafe, so maybe it can happen.

    The magazine Alichino runs in got cancelled, which is why it’s incomplete, but having a volume come out here before it gets serialized in Japan is kind of unprecedented. It’ll be awesome if and when it happens.

    I heard she broke her hand or something like that.
    Anyway, I saw the review in vol 3 and my hope is still on, though it’s fragile. It’d be a shame if it’s incomplete. I mean it’s a cliff hanger for me. To know what happened with that guy who wants Tsurigi’s soul and Hyuga.

  6. Connie says:

    Yeah, it would be a shame. Like I said, I can see ways the series could end really well if the fourth volume ever came out. But I’ve lost pretty much all hope for that at this point.

    I’ve just this second finished reading Alichino volume 3. It’s been six years since that was published in Japan. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a volume taking that long to come out before! I thought I would only have to wait as long as it took for the next volume to come out in the UK (we’re behind the US by like a year or something) but if it hasn’t even been published in Japan yet, man am I in for a long wait. T_T

    …O.o…ok. I’ve read the first three and I am in LOVE. And I hope somebody at some point can confirm if they will ever actually have a volume 4! So if any of you guys hear anything new about it…PLEASE TELL ME!!!

    The 4th volume is about as elusive as the 3rd volume of Under the Glass Moon. And just as eagerly awaited.

    I wish this mangaka had done the artwork for Return to Labyrinth manga instead of only the covers. Or maybe she should stop doing the covers and return to Alichino >_>;

    She’s such a good illustrator, I can see why they have her doing additional artwork in other places, but I’m with you. Her sequential artwork is really good too, and I wish she would return to drawing comics, Alichino and otherwise. I am dying to see more of her art in action.

    WAAAAAAAAH!!
    I founded it last year and i thought it will only be 3 volumes! ;;–;;
    I’m just hoping that volume 4 would come soon~!!
    I was shocked when I found out that it has been 8 friggin years and it hasn’t come!!
    FUUUU-

  12. Connie says:

    Yup… and still no news aside from the teaser pages in the back of volume 3. I can’t believe it’s been eight years. It doesn’t feel like it’s been five years since I wrote this review, either. ^_^;

    Trust me, there wont be a volume four, and even if it does come, I wont read it; I only read Alichino for it’s art, and the artist broke her hand.
