Dragon Ball 11

I’m a little sad to pick this series back up in the middle of the Budokai. I’m sure I was pretty pumped about this when I finished 10, but that was several months ago. We get three fights here: the end of Kuririn v. Chaozu, Kuririn v. Goku, and Goku v. Tenshinhan. We also get a taste of Ten v. Jackie Chun, but that battle was kind of anticlimactic. Now that I think about it, plenty DID happen in this volume.
The fights are still all really varied for, literally, a tournament in the middle of a tournament-style manga. Usually I get bored with this sort of thing, and it seems like the series is getting ready to turn serious so I still may, but the one thing I like about Dragon Ball at this point is that there’s still a lot of tricks and jokes going on and it’s not all man versus man yet. Really, all the worst examples of manly fights that I can think of are also in Dragon Ball, but I haven’t quite gotten that far yet.
I don’t like Chaozu that much at all after his fight. I know he was being told what to do by the Crane Master (who was avenging his dead brother… who I don’t remember dying? should I?), but he still came off as pretty evil and a jerk. I’ll see if future events make me favor him more.
Tenshinhan is also kind of a jerk, and the fight between Jackie Chun and he is annoying too because you don’t just tell a bad guy they should be good. Bad guys don’t convert that easily. Tenshinhan’s slightly annoying for the aftermath of said conversation (I mean, REALLY, is he actually that big a baby?), but he was less of a jerk than Chaozu.
On to 12!
