+Anima 3

Natsumi Mukai – Tokyopop – 2007 – 10 volumes total

Hooray! No side stories this time around! The series still doesn’t have a direction, but I’m still really liking these episodic, wholesome stories about animal-people. All the characters are still really good and working together and everything too, so nothing’s lacking at this point. I’m not sure how much longer it can keep going like this, but for the time being it’s going to stay one of my favorites.

My favorite story was probably the one that dealt with everyone thinking Husky was actually a girl because he loved jewelery and refused to take a bath with the other boys.  The end of that chapter was hilarious, I was rooting for it the entire time and I was glad to see my payoff.

They run back into the cat Anima from before at a hot spring, where they also meet a bison Anima who is wreaking havoc because he just wants to heal a wound, and heard it would heal better if he stayed as an animal.  The segregation elements that keep popping up since regular people are supposed to hate Anima keep things rather serious-minded despite the rather light nature of the series otherwise, and chapters like this where the bison Anima has to frighten people off just so he can heal himself make me very sad.  There was another chapter where Cooro made friends with a kid who sent him away when he found out he was an Anima that made me sad too.  Cooro doesn’t seem to be phased by this, but everyone else that has the power seems hyper-aware of themselves, and it’s pointed out that Cooro is the only one who keeps his tattoos uncovered.

There was another two-part story that had a horse Anima in a flashback, and it kind of revealed something about what will or may happen to the kids down the line.  I don’t know.  This series is still pretty cute, and it’s still one of my favorites, and I still can’t believe the volumes come out so slow.  More people need to read it!

    I “beleive” it was a deer +Anima. I’m rather obsessed with it at the moment, only discovering it recently. Can’t wait to see some of the other animals that might come up! I DO hope there is a rabbit one. ^.^

    Yeah, you may be right. I just remember she was a four-legged +Anima and she had a really cool design. The human/animal integrations have all been really good thus far, so I’m also really pumped about seeing more animal combinations. I actually kind of want to see variations on different bird and fish +Anima like Cooro and Husky.

    I’m glad someone else is reading this series, I really like it and I never hear anyone else talk about it.

    I think she was a deer +Anima? It was very neat, and Centaur-like.

  5. Connie says:

    Yeah, that seems to be the consensus. I must’ve missed some of the visual clues when I was reading it. But it was cool all the same, she’s probably been my favorite +Anima so far.

    If you’re wondering about why I’m assuming she’s a deer +Anima, it has to do with her ears mostly. They stick out kind of straight and just remind me of a deer. Also, I think she had spots on her; prehaps like a white-tail deer? I doubt they’ll have too many more fish +Anima, but birds are very likely.

    We got one more bird +Anima in volume 4, so you’ll probably be right about there being more later. Seems like it would be a good one to use often, since then the kids can fly.

    I went back to look at her, and I think you’re definitely right. The ears are pretty big, and there’s a silhouette after the flashback that’s definitely more deer-like than horse. It’s got a little bob-tail like a deer would have.

    I’m rather upset by the lack of new +Anima in volumes 4 and 5, other than the new bird one, of course. I’m hoping there will be a couple in the mountains in the next book, especially with the Kim’unkur? (not sure of spelling…) I did like how the new bird +Anima (Sinon or something) had his arms change into wings instead of growing them on his back like Cooro and Nana. The volumes are waaaaay slow in coming out. We need to drag more people into this really adorable series!

    Yeah, I’m really looking forward to the Kim un Kir (or whatever) +Anima. Apparently that’s where the +Anima come from, so here’s hoping there’ll be some totally awesome ones in the upcoming volumes.

    I keep trying to push this on people, but no one ever seems to listen to my recommendation. It’s their loss, but it’s a shame that the series isn’t supported more. I’d like to think we’d get a faster release if it was more popular, but I think it would have to be WAY more popular in order for that to happen ^_^;
