Saint Seiya 1

It is awesome in a completely different way than my benchmark awesome boy’s series, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. It’s certainly violent, because the first villain decapitates people he beats and noone thinks much of this, but noone has gotten their face punched in half yet, and no dogs have been kicked in the face as they are in the first chapter of Jojo.
It’s like… the fighting didn’t stop, though. I know I said I hate tournament-style manga, and this one is seriously nothing but fight after fight. But it doesn’t let you stop to think about anything, like about the ethics of sending out 100 orphans to train for the right to win your prize and having 90 go missing. No, what it wants you to pay attention to is… I don’t even know. They just fight all the time. I like it a lot, I had a big stupid grin on my face the entire time because it didn’t make any damn sense, but not in a bad way. It wan’t trying to make any sense, it was just trying to fight as much as humanly possible.
So Seiya gets the Pegasus Cloth, enduring 7 or so years of deadly training to get it, because they promised him if he came back alive, they’d reunite him with his sister. Except they haven’t done this yet, they tell him they’ll only help him with his sister if he wins the gold cloth in this orphan tournament. So therein lies the motivation.
