Dokebi Bride 1

Even though I’d heard that this was the best of Netcomic’s series, I still put it off because the plot just doesn’t sound that interesting and the art on the covers didn’t really appeal to me.  When I saw it in the half off bin at the comic store though, I thought that it was well worth my five bucks each for volume one and two.

And it was.  I wasn’t too sure about the story until I got most of the way through this volume.  It’s one that’s been told before… girl sees ghosts, is the only one who can see ghosts, girl is ostracized because of family associations, etc.  The younger Sunbi makes for quite a cheerful little girl though, and the story with her and her grandma talking to the Dragon God was pretty engrossing, especially when you find out all these nifty things about the grandma.  The end is what did it for me, though.  I cried.  I wept like a little baby, and I cared so much after reading one volume.  I cried harder when I got to about the last three pages, too.  It was rough on a girl like me.

Anything that makes me cry is definitely on a high recommendation list from me.  The plot is kind of weird, and I still feel a sense of detachment from it, but… I don’t even know if I like Sunbi that much, but I do.  Weird things happen, and they are fascinating.  That’s why I like this series.

I admit it, I fell in love with this manwha. I absolutely love the story and I can’t wait to read volume 2. I wish I bought more.. :-/ I need rightstuf Netcomics special sale now! I liked every single Netcomics book I’ve read so far.

Dokebi Bride is probably my favorite from Netcomics, even before Click. The problem is that the author sort of takes breaks and goes about writing it very slowly, so there was a year break between volumes… 4 & 5? Or maybe 5 & 6? Wherever the break was, the following volume was sort of subpar. I think it was volume 5, and then volume 6 was awesome again.

It’s been on another break for the past year. I’m hoping for signs of life within the next month or so. I think it’s one of those things they would post on their website in a second and then have the book out the next week if it was available.

Well, I don’t mind slow writing because I like returning to the series when I’m getting a new volume and rereading it whole again. (I did it often in times I had very few manga but there’s not so much time for it nowdays.) I usually like it even more.. ^_^ For example, Negima really grew on me this way as there are lots of characters and you have real trouble remembering them all when reading for the first time. As for Netcomics, I can recommend In The Starlight (I see you don’t have it listed here but ya may know it). The only bad thing about it is that I have to wait till next year for volume 4.

I haven’t read In the Starlight, but I thought it sounded good. Some of their newer series aren’t appealing to me or are only coming out in an online version (though I’m going to go ahead and read all the interesting-sounding retro titles that they have that are web-only sometime soon). I was considering going back and getting some more of their earlier titles I’d passed on, and In the Starlight and Narration of Love at 17 both sounded really good.

Today I plan to read the first volume of “Operation Liberate Men” manhwa because there’s finally another NETCOMICS special sale at Rightstuf (yeah, my wish came true!) and I need to know if I should by more volumes.. I also plan to read the first volume of Zero/Six, Boy Princess (am I that perverted?) and Land of Silver Rain I bought before. I definitely plan to buy more volumes of Let Dai, Dokebi Bride, Let’s Be Perverts and some Click and maybe Pine Kiss.. I welcome any other strong recommendations.. ^_^

I was surprised by the timeliness of that sale, too ^_^; The time has basically passed now, but I think you’ve pretty much got everything spectacular I can think of that I’ve read from them, except for maybe the Manhwa Novella Collection volume done by the author of Let Dai, which was pretty amazing. It was the fourth volume, Devil’s Trill. The other Manhwa Novella Collection volumes were sort of cool reads, but they definitely read more like first volumes by the mangaka than anything else. I remember strongly disliking one of them, but the others were sort of okay.

I haven’t been trying a lot of the new series, unfortunately. I didn’t care for the first chapter of Operation Liberate Men, the premise for Romance Papa is a little creepy for my tastes even though I’m sure I’d love it, and a lot of the other current series are either BL or online-only, which is kind of a shame. During the sale, I picked up Narration of Love at 17 and June. June is stalled at the moment, but the premise sounds great, and it’s by the same person that did Click.

Well, I ordered a few books (including 2 volumes of Click) so you can expect some more commentaries on Netcomics books from me.. ;-)
I did not order any Manhwa Novella Collection volumes, I usually like longer series more than 1-volume manga. And yeah, I hope my order will help continue releasing series as books and not only online.. I hope they will continue wih Into The Stars..
