One Piece 11

I don’t even wanna retype this.
EDIT: it threw up most of this post later, but now I’ve got two versions floating around in wordpress. blah, let me figure this out. also: somehow I marked this entry as Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch, which struck me as extremely hilarious.
So I was shocked to see Garp in this volume. TOTALLY shocked. I pay little attention to the mini-arcs at the beginnings of the chapters when I’m reading the stuff as it comes out, so that at least is new when I’m going through and reading the volumes. We didn’t get to see Garp’s face at all this volume, so maybe he’ll show himself in the next one.
The battle with Arlong is also slightly less epic and a lot shorter than later final boss fights (it seemed like the Enies Lobby arc went on forever, for example), so I was kind of shocked when it took up as few chapters as it did. The only thing I did like was all the focus put on Arlong’s nose. It was kind of a weird trait, so I’m glad it got a lot of attention.
I also sat and patiently waited as everything in the village was resolved, the partying commenced, and Nami said her goodbyes and got a new tattoo. The scene where she left the island and jumped on the ship was quite an amusing one, though. I don’t much like Nami, but I love that scene.
Then comes one of my favorite stories in One Piece, even to this day. It’s so short, but we have yet to top the sheer fun and brilliance that was the Roguetown arc (or is it Loguetown? purists insist on the latter, but Roguetown makes a lot more sense, and purists are sometimes very silly).
Roguetown Arc: BEST STORY IN ONE PIECE EVER. I’ve read up to the current serialization at chapter 450, and I’ve read the Roguetown arc about a dozen times, and I still think it’s the best. Aside from it’s awesome plot, it’s got the best Zoro scene in the entire manga (where he does something awesome with a cursed sword) and the best Luffy scene… ever. The execution is one of my favorite manga moments from any series I read. I doubt there are too many other people, even fans of the series, that feel this way, but this is my favorite part of the series right here.
Read it. For me.
