One Piece 14

In the SBS corner, when someone asks about Fishman moves or something like that, he says you have to train on Fishman island, which will be coming up soon. By “soon” he meant 35 or so volumes, because the storyline just NOW reached Fishman island in Japan… and not even, because it’s their current destination, but they’re having a bit of a zombie/shichibukai problem along the way.
But Little Garden is in the present. I didn’t like this arc that much, though the giants are certainly loveable. They are fighting a manly battle for manly men, something that both Usopp and Luffy agree with. Of course, their 100-year battle gets interrupted when the Mugiwara gang lands and the Baroque Works members that were persuing them turn up. Mr. 3, who I didn’t really like the first time around but the bad translation neglected to let me know he was an artiste, loves making statues out of people as well as exploding ale. Miss Goldenweek also winds up pretty cool… I had forgotten she didn’t even have a Devil Fruit power. I had also forgotten how hilarious her battle with Luffy was. I also also forgot that Miss Valentine’s Day and Mr. 5 show back up. We get a big brawl.
The moment in this volume that wins: when Zoro poses because he wants to look cool as a statue, then later tells Nami that she should have posed too. Yes.
But in the end, since it’s still about pirates, it’s still one of the best series I’m reading now. I’ll tell you next month if Eroica wins out over it or not.
