Oh My Goddess 26

May 31, 2007

I forgot to order 25 before 26, and when 25 finally arrived, I couldn’t read it fast enough to get the resolution to the fight between Hild and Lind.  The consequences of the fight have an aftermath story that plays out in the second half of the story as Belldandy attempts to control two summon/symbiotic entities, but the fight is the main thing here.  Lind is a great character, and although things get pretty sappy in the end, I still really liked it.

I complained slightly about the ratio of women to Keiichi last time, and on one hand this is true.   On the other hand, I prefer this newer, girlier version of Oh My Goddess, as there were many manly men in the earlier part of the series when it dealt a lot with motorsports, and I didn’t like it nearly as much as I do right now.  So bring on the women if it keeps making great stories like this one.

Lind is a strange character.  On one hand, she’s not goofy at all, so we can be sure she won’t be hanging out and living in the temple like Peorth.  On the other hand, she’s weirdly stoic, and her total lack of emotion is really contrary to all the goddess (and demon) characters so far.  But she’s a fighter, pure and simple, and it was awesome to see her in action in this series.

So yes, Lind story’s awesome.  Anyone who liked Oh My Goddess but felt like it was losing its magic, feel free to pick up these two volumes, because it really does breathe quite a bit of life into its usual stale plots.  This was the extent of my foreknowledge in Oh My Goddess plots, so it will be interesting to see if more epic battle-type stories become the norm.
