Wow, I never would have suspected Leiji Matsumoto as the possible father of the sexaroid. Even if he wasn't, it's still interesting that he's got a series with that name dating from 1968 and that they appear in his other work. From what little of his stuff I've been exposed to, I can't even begin to imagine sex fitting into his more popular stuff... unless it's in the context you mentioned, where there's not actually any sex.

Thanks, that little fact made my day.

I first saw that term used in "Doll," too, but from what I've gathered, it has been floating around much longer than that. I think Leiji Matsumoto might have been the one to come up with the concept. He wrote a manga series titled "Sexaroid" from 1968 to 1970; considering that so little of his manga has been translated, I don't know much about this series. Sexaroids have popped up in other works of his, too. I've seen a few episodes of "The Galaxy Railways," and one of the characters, Yuki, claims that she is a sexaroid, but I don't think she performs any sexual "duties." (She's actually the nurse for the platoon predominantly featured in the series.) I think there sexaroids in "Bubblegum Crisis," too, but I've never seen any of that series or its related spin-offs.

I picked up the term from Doll, but maybe it's not a technical term ^_^; I can't remember if they use it within the context of the story or not. At least they didn't abuse the robots in addition to the sex here, like they did in Doll. It was still creepy.

I'm pretty sure that both characters in the end-of-the-world story are guys. The "bitter girl" may have a somewhat feminine face, but his body is definitely masculine.
