Bleach 20
September 17, 2007
Ugh. I’m done with the Soul Society. This one is almost entirely Soul Society politics, but thankfully it’s more or less an explanation for everything that’s been going on up to this point. A… really backwards explanation where a character comes out of literally nowhere and owns up to (and performs) all these evil deeds, but an explanation all the same. I don’t know how I felt about this, but I know we’ve come back to hollows, which is really what I care about. Maybe we can jettison these 500 extra characters now.
This volume was really just a long fight scene with the evil shinigami who have been wreaking havoc. People die and are also mortally wounded. For the final showdown, everyone who’s still alive shows up. It’s kind of awesome, but I’m just ready for all this to be done. I’m looking forward to things moving back to hollows and maybe a brief touch of regular life, but I think the pace is going to slow down now since I think there’s something about one of the new storylines running in the US Jump? I don’t know how that works.

Next month they plan on printing 120 pages from vol. 22 that comes out in February 2008. They’re also releasing Vol. 21 next month as well so you’d have to read that first before you pick up Jump.

Ah, thanks for explaining that for me, it was probably just a half-remembered snippet from a news site I read awhile ago.
Flipping through volume 21, I’m glad to see the hollows back. I’m really hoping it’ll get me excited about the series again.

Ummm… breathtaking volume. Very surprising how everything turned out. I’ve read 20 volumes of Bleach during several days, not taking a break to read anything else, and that says it. It happened only once so far when I was reading a long series. With Naruto.

Wow, I’m glad you wound up liking it so much. I don’t think I’ve ever gone through a series as fast as that. It makes me think I ought to go back and re-read the volumes, because it seems like a lot of people are enjoying Soul Society a lot more when the volumes are read in big chunks.
