Tsubasa 14
Posted: December 17, 2007 Filed under: Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle 5 Comments »I haven’t read this series in awhile. I just got the newest volume in English, so I figured now is as good as any other time. I’m three volumes behind the Japanese release, unfortunately, which puts me about… three volumes ahead of the English release? Or something? Do I even care about the series that much? Not really, but I still think it’s a genuinely entertaining read. I do care about having the awesome hardcover Japanese volumes though, which are decked out in fancy character portraits.
Mostly the action is contained in the library. After revealing much about Kurogane in the last volume, most of this volume is concerned with hunting down the original memory book and getting Sakura’s feather out of it. While fighting some of the library security in a hopeless situation, Syaoran goes a little berserk. Kurogane notices.
Kurogane also questions Fai about his knowledge of magic pretty frequently in this volume, and Fai actually demonstrates some power towards the end. That was very much welcome. Let’s hear more about Fai shortly.
The last page of this volume: Kamui! It gave me serious X flashbacks, especially since all the cloaked figures nearly mimic the first page of X… with the exception of the crossbows, of course.
So, how come you spell it Sayoran instead of Syaoran? Is that more faithful to how it is in the Japanese books?
Ah… no… I got into the bad habit of spelling his name wrong. A hard habit to break. I picked it up while I was first going through Cardcaptor Sakura, and I just always forget that’s not how it’s spelled. I think I’ve got to go back and fix those now -_-;
Ohh. Hee. I think I saw it somewhere as Shaoran, but now I’m not sure where that was. CCS anime, perhaps?
Finally Kamui appears… ^_^ This series is certainly readable… quickly readable with action scenes spreading over two pages often.. reading 14 volumes in a row was certaintly an enjoyable ride but I still enjoy xxxholic a lot more…
Yeah, I think Holic will always be my favorite of the two. That one just has so much more weirdness and style going for it.
Tsubasa is actually much more enjoyable in big chunks, I think. I usually save up a few volumes and read them together. I also follow the Japanese version off and on, depending on how interesting the plotlines are. I’m more than a few volumes behind at this point, and I think the series will be wrapping up within the next month or so in Japan, or at least it seems like it. I tried to jump back in, but I have no idea what’s going on, so I guess I’ll just have to be a good girl and take my time with it.
