After being totally disgraced last volume, Jan comes back with a vengeance in this volume. And when I say “vengeance,” I mean it. There’s never been a bigger dick for a main character than Jan Akiyama. He totally blows the two girls out of the water with his dessert dish, which is a recipe that adds to the world of blood cuisine. The buildup for this recipe reaches levels of suspense, action, and self-aggrandizement that I’m not sure will ever be topped. Kiriko’s dish earns some points, while Celine’s frog fallopian tube dessert… well, has frog fallopian tubes in it. To be fair, Jan’s not only uses blood, but some sort of thread thrown up by a very rare species of bird colored with a bit of blood from the vomit… so you take your pick of revolting dishes there.
Does Jan win though? Will he have to leave Gobancho? Ho! The entire volume is dedicated to just this final meal. That’s in the next volume.
