Moon Child 3

I hate saying it like that, because Jimmy takes the form of a little boy through the entire volume, but I like the adorable non-romantic father-son relationship they have going… and hey, if Jimmy decides to turn into Benjamin and be an older, gorgeous woman too, then that pair’s fine by me too.
It’s interesting that Teruto and Seth are actually Jimmy’s brothers, and are apparently sexless. The fact that their position was explained in terms of clownfish was quite nice, and it made me easily understand what could have been a really confusing, convoluted plot point. I wonder how long Seth lasts.
Also interesting was what appears to be the inclusion of the Sea Witch. Nice touch. Not so interesting was the fact that the factory explosion alluded to in the last volume was… Chernobyl. I wonder if that is an actual quote from Revelations they used, too. If so, drawing the biblical parallel from Wormwood to Chernobyl was pretty clever. I still am not entirely comfortable with the heavy-handed environmentalist theme that seems to be picking up, but I’m willing to wait and see how that’s handled.
Oh, I like Shonach more than Art, I hope he’s the one for Jimmy… ;-))
Anyway, I think the only series I could compare to this one is Please Save My Earth (although Moon Child is environmentalistic and PSME is not). Not that the story is similar, it’s just the feeling. But so far, I don’t like Moon Child as much as PSME.
Moon Child is never really so much addictive as it is fascinating. You feel compelled to keep reading, but not for any great love for what’s going on.
For the record, Art is a real jerk. This doesn’t change through the entire series, and his behavior just keeps getting worse and worse. I did wind up rooting for him in the end, though, which makes me feel terrible.
