Oh My Goddess 6
January 8, 2008
Have I had enough harems yet? Not quite. This is a proto-harem series, and while the number of women living with Keiichi keeps increasing, none of them are really interested in him save for Belldandy. Though Urd does tease him occasionally.
Luckily, my harem monotony was broken with this volume, since more than half of it resolves the Lord of Terror storyline, one of my two favorite action stories in the series so far. The Lord of Terror wakes up Fenrir the Wolf and there’s a big wolf running around smashing buildings. Belldandy’s still unsealed, which is still pretty cool. Also brought into play in this story is the Universal Super String and a 10-dimensional scythe. Also, what happens to discs when magnets are applied to them.
Also included in this volume is one of my absolute favorite short stories in the series. After a few chapters that involve the Goddesses using alternate energy sources (cutting the Universal Super String crashed Yggdrasil, so they have to get their power elsewhere), everyone has returned to normal except Urd. Due to… some program running backwards, Urd is now a child. She meets up with a little boy in a park, and the two spend a few days playing together and doing little kid things. Urd enjoys herself immensely, to the point where she doesn’t quite want to be an adult again. The end of the chapter is extremely bittersweet. I love that story.
So yeah. Now that the Urd short story and the Lord of Terror story are all in the same volume, this may very well be my favorite volume of Oh My Goddess. It’s good this followed the last volume I read, which was kind of a weak one, because it reminds me what it is I love about the series so much.
