Cantarella 8
Posted: January 20, 2008 Filed under: Cantarella 8 Comments »Once again, I’m conflicted as to how I feel about this volume. When I finished, it felt like nothing happened. But when I look back, there were a lot of… relationship politics that were played out in this volume.
Now, while I’m glad Lucrezia is serving a purpose other than crying, I’m sad to see Chiaro separated from Cesare. Cesare isn’t really featured too prominently in this volume other than to get more creepy, but his creepy attendant Volpe is sent after Chiaro to whip the tar out of him.
There was a new character introduced who will be a future husband for Lucrezia. I actually really liked him, he’s pretty clever and seems to comically get himself and others out of sticky situations. I hope that Lucrezia eventually winds up with him, because he seems like the kind of person who will put everything right.
I also liked Chiaro’s frequent angst-ridden scenes where he regrets his sin of leaving his master. He admits he can fight for no other when someone tries to draft him, so I hope he’ll wind up back in Caesare’s good graces eventually. Well, at the very least it means he hasn’t forsaken Cesare entirely. And it looks like Cesare may miss him.
Hi, I’m another Cantarella’s fan ^^
I reaally Love and hate it at the same time! Why didn’t it contain MORE yaoi content? XDDD
Ah, Do you have scans of cantarella vol 8? Mind to share with me?? please!! I need it so badly!! XO
I’ll grant your wish in other hand, what manga are you searching now??
Ah sorry, I don’t really read scanslations, these are all reviews of stuff I have. I’m kind of surprised Cantarella’s still available in scans, it’s been licensed for quite some time.
Exactly my point of view on Lucrezia. I mean, she´s sweet and all, but the way she “forgot” about her brother and just turned to Chiaro… well. That left me a bit… and I just wish Volpe would disappear off the face of the earth. I admire his loyalty and all but I seiously think he needs to take Cesare´s own needs and wants into consideration. Jealous SOB.
For some reason, I was really confused when Volpe became more of a main character because I do not remember his introduction at all. It’s like he just suddenly showed up and serves Cesare for the sole purpose of shutting Chiaro out.
And wow, I don’t know what I was doing when I wrote this review, I misspelled Chiaro’s name wrong every time I used it. Fixed.
Lucrezia will obviously end up with Alfonso, honestly, it’s so easy to get spoilers for Cantarella since it is practically based off real history. Apparently, Cesare begins to hate Alfonso. Yes Im spoiling it but it’s on Wikipedia. It’s a good and bad thing, getting spoilers so easily.
Looking for Volume 8 scantalations. >.<
Huh, I didn’t realize it followed history so closely. I guess the only thing I really knew about the Borgias was that they were masters of poison and Cesare was a legendary fighter. I’m still waiting for those elements to enter the story.
Well yes, it does follow quite closely to the main historical events surrounding the Borgias actually.
In fact I’m also with Miss Higuri on her views on Lucrezia in some ways. I don’t think shes’ that evil, but as the story gets on you will realise Lucrezia becomes stronger, and is less of a cry baby. People! She’s really only a child (historically married to Giovanni Sforza around 12 only)but I think shes already gradually showing her strength by the last two volumes.
And it is unlikely Lucrezia will die anytime soon…historically she survived longer, and shes also amiable with Alfonso, I do hope they find consolation with each other. lol
Hah, I guess I didn’t realize she was so young, I think I expected her to be around 17 or so. She has gotten slightly more backbone since the series started, but I’m still waiting for her to become the strong Lucrezia Borgia of history. It would actually be great if she developed in a way that paralleled the real person’s history and became less of a shoujo manga heroine.
I read “Mirror Mirror” by Gregory Maguire just before I started this series, so I’m always comparing the portrayals between the two works. I like the Mirror Mirror Lucrezia better, she works well as a wicked stepmother.
