Moon Child 5

Aw, Teruto turns into a really mean, evil character in this volume.  It’s hard to see anyone who looks like Jimmy as an antagonist, but it looks like Teruto has sort of slipped into that role.  Things are made worse by the fact Seth has no idea what happened to Teruto and is left at home to weep and miss him.

Teruto has his own thing going in the body of Gil, a young millionaire heir to some sort of industrial company (or at least a powerful company with some influence in industry, I’m not sure).  He’s manipulating an awkward, lovable woman who fell in love with the real Gil and who is apparently psychic in some way and able to see Teruto’s illusions.  He plans to destroy Earth eventually, but I think that comes later.

Elsewhere, Shonach runs across Seth, which means that Jimmy’s brothers have finally entered the world of other mermaids.  Perhaps this means that a better explanation as to why the three are triplets and why the other two can’t bear eggs will be forthcoming, but I guess one isn’t really needed.  It was explained, I suppose, that the child of Seira was so important that backups were needed so that fate would carry over into the next generation.  At least, that’s what I gather, but it still doesn’t quite make sense to me why it is that Seth and Teruto can’t mate.  Oh well, I’m willing to go with the ethereal flow, I suppose.

I’m not sure if this was explained earlier or not, but Seth brings more legend into the story with a bit more detail about what will happen if the love between mermaid and human succeeds, which gives me all the more reason to root for Art.

It’s still wonderful atmospheric romantic weird old shoujo at its best, and things just keep getting more odd and intense with each volume.
