Love for Dessert

This is exactly what I want in a Luvluv book.  Cute stories that are fun to read and I don’t have to think about too much.  These are sort of like popcorn shoujo comics.  I know that this sort of thing probably doesn’t appeal to that many people, especially since the stories aren’t particularly deep, but I really liked this volume, and I will probably continue to read every book that comes out from this label.

I liked this voume in particular because all the stories had food-related titles.  Clearly it doesn’t take much to impress me.  They weren’t even all food-centric, sometimes the tie would be something simple, like the story “Red Bean” being so named because the love interest had his hair burned off and his shaved head looked like a bean.  The first story was definitely food-themed, though.  It ended with the guy smearing whipped cream all over the girl and licking it off, which is how I was hoping all of these would end.  The second story was also great, about a girl who was getting bored with her relationship finding new life when her boyfriend winds up with a job wearing a suit.  Wouldn’t you know it, that just turns her crank like nothing else.  Those two stories alone were worth the price of admission, but I was kind of disappointed the rest of the stories weren’t weird in similar ways.

What else… a girl who has the perfect boyfriend loses her job and starts tutoring a college student, only to find out that her fortune advisor is a stalker creep and her boyfriend is too dominant in her life, a girl with no respect for men finds herself escorted to and from her hostess club job by a worried classmate, and… a girl winds up with a guy from her past back in her life, and she’s got to figure out how to get his attention again.

I wouldn’t mind more of these being a little kinky, like the first two, but just the straight-up simple, shallow relationship stories are all I expect, and do like them very much, but like I said… there probably aren’t that many people in the same boat as me.

Yeah, I think I was in the completely opposite boat as you. :) The whipped cream and suit ones were among my least favorites. I really liked “Red Bean,” about the boy escorting the girl to her hostess bar job, and “Puppy Chow,” about the girl who was frustrated that her quirky boyfriend wouldn’t just make decisions for her. If the sex grew out of the relationship, I was happy, otherwise it just seemed completely random.

Just out of curiosity, have you read any of the other Luvluv books, and if so, did you like this one better?

This was my first one. I read it for Manga Recon, and had a choice between several when choosing what to review. I remembered you’d like this one, so I picked it.

Ah, just wondered if you read some of the earlier volumes. They have slightly more serious stories, but I like the focus/themed stories in volumes like this one. Plus, some of the earlier ones have very short stories and as a result have kind of weird relationship dynamics sometimes. Also, very random sex, which seemed to be the punchline to a lot of the stories.

Did you enjoy this one as a whole, or enough to read more of the Luvluv books?

I’d definitely be amenable to reading others in the LuvLuv line. I definitely liked the 2 stories I mentioned, and the rest were okay until the abrupt sexx0rs happened.

My review for this went up today. It’s here.

Great! I was wondering when it was going up, I poked around the Manga Recon a bit and couldn’t find it.
