Eyeshield 21 23

Even better, he beats Agon man-to-man, fair and square. You knew Agon was going to go down at some point since he was so cocky, but it’s pretty spectacular here, and it happens more than once.
But yes, Hiruma’s pretty amazing.
There’s an excellent scene at the very end of the game with Sena on his back in the end zone. He’s simply staring up at the sky after something amazing happens. It’s more effective than a shot of the characters celebrating could ever be, since you’re forced to consider what is going through his head at that moment. Wonderful.
Most of the rest of the volume goes through the other playoff games that take place the same day, with a few more opportunities for the sense of humor I mentioned last time to show. One of my favorite gags was one involving the Misaki Wolves, a team that was clearly meant to be beaten by the Seibu Wild Gunmen so that Seibu and Deimon could play again. Not every familiar team makes it, though I can’t say I was entirely surprised by the upset, since a marginal team getting overthrown by a surprisingly tough contender isn’t exactly… well, it’s something you can kind of expect.
There’s a great gag chapter at the end, too, where everyone’s in a huge amount of pain at school the next day. Poor Natsuhiko can’t even high kick.
