Oh, thanks! I recalled as soon as you mentioned that, but I’m surprised it’s not a detail I remembered while I was reading.

Ren was introduced in the divine design arc when the GB fight Lucifer. She’s one of lucifers angels, but is defeated and since she has nowhere to go Paul offers her a job in his cafe.

It’s been a long time since I watched the anime or read the earlier parts of the series… but I think in the manga there are two girls that work at Paul’s bar? I was thinking the second girl was introduced in the early volumes of the manga, but the case I was trying to recall was one where they retrieve a cat sculpture that they break and Natsumi (or the other girl) makes a joke that it looks like Doraemon. I don’t think that’s the other girl’s introduction case, though, and if Natsumi was the one making the comment, it would make sense since she was already working there.

But I always have a hard time remembering there’s two girls in the manga whenever they appear together. They look and act exactly alike too, which doesn’t help my memory.

Hm. Maybe that was only in the anime or something, ‘cos I just looked at v1 and they’re definitely already acquainted with her when they’re first shown going into Paul’s bar.

My interest in this series has been somewhat rekindled due to reading Black Cat and finding it similar, so I’ve come to check out your reviews again.

You write, “The story finishes up in this volume with how the pair meets Natsumi, which is when she asks them to retrieve her super-smart dog.”

But… didn’t we see them meet her back in vol. 1? Was she not the girl with the, like, plushie thing that went missing, or am I completely misremembering things?

I know that Tokyopop is currently rescheduling a lot of their books, though a lot of people seem to think that they are being “cancelled.” A few that I thought had bit the dust are apparently coming back on track late this year, and I suspect GetBackers will probably see a December/January release. I doubt they’d drop this one, it’s fairly big name compared to some of the other series that they’ve kept running.
