V. B. Rose 5

I reviewed this for the Manga Minis column at the Manga Recon, so you can check out the review over there.

Long story short: A lot of what was bothering me in the past couple volumes I’ve sort of set aside, and I like it a lot more as the romance story it is.  It’s not a deep romance, and there’s not much else to it, but it’s hard not to get caught up in Yukari and Ageha’s constant worries, and I liked it a lot for what it is.

dude, i frickin’ L.O.V.E this series!! and i have no good reason other than, i guess, the relationship and his character has been developed better by this volume and i totally can believe in it/care about it now. and i like how simple her art style has gotten by this series…i hate you more than anyone can sometimes be a chore to read because its so cluttered. i’m worried about volume 6 of this though, cuz it just came out and its already listed as 1 to 3 weeks on amazon…and borders keeps downsizing it’s manga section i haven’t seen it there yet…but i’m not sure when i went there last this month so i may have been there before it was released and thats why i didn’t see it….

I think volume six didn’t hit its release date. I’m guessing it says 1-3 weeks on Amazon because the date passed and Amazon didn’t get any copies. Hopefully it’s just a delay. Right Stuf doesn’t even have the volume listed, though for some reason some of the merchants in the secondhand marketplace on Amazon have it listed. I’m willing to bet they don’t actually have it, though.

You’re right, the characters have both gotten to the point where its fun to read, and I don’t really have to worry about either of them. The series is sort of a simple pleasure. And it’s true what you say about the art being more simple. It’s kind of weird how many manga artists have such cluttered layouts in their older series, I was just thinking about that since I’d just read an early Matsuri Hino volume that had cluttered art. I haven’t read I Hate You More Than Anyone in a long time, so I’d forgotten how much different the art is between the series.
