Banana Fish 10
Posted: May 9, 2009 Filed under: Banana Fish 4 Comments »This volume was pretty epic. Ash is declared dead, and we see the reaction various characters have to the news. Most don’t believe it, of course, which sort of nullifies the impact, but that’s okay.
Banana Fish experimentation is involved with Ash’s sudden incarceration, and some scary stuff is going down. Dino Golzine, of all people, shows up to intervene, even though he no longer has the power to “free” Ash.
So, as you might expect, the entire second half is an escape attempt by Ash, along with some bumbling assistance provided by Ibe and Max, since they happen to be there on a tour.
Now, I can’t stress this enough: Ash is an awesome character. I love seeing him think his way out of situations, and this is no exception. The challenge here is that this place is basically a maximum security prison, so he’s got a lot of hurdles to deal with. The alternative is basically a lobotomy. It’s pretty epic stuff. The only thing it lacked was Ash-Eiji moments, so I’m hoping for more of that next time.
I can’t agree with you more. Ash is what awesome would be if it were human.
You know, these reviews remind me of all of the awesome plot twists in Banana Fish. I can’t wait till you meet Bianca, the one man Ash fears (though you probably already have, because I can’t imagine anybody sitting on a pile of unread Banana Fish volumes for more than a few days).
I haven’t read them all yet, but only because I’m waiting until I can get a big enough chunk of time to read several volumes at once. This will probably happen tomorrow, though I’ll probably still only post one review a night. I’m very much looking forward to it.
