Breaking Down Banana Fish, vols 17-19 (end)
Posted: June 1, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites Leave a comment »Once again, Melinda, Michelle, Eva, Khursten, Robin and I meet to talk about Banana Fish, and this time we reach the final three volumes of the series. Check it out over at the Manga Bookshelf.
We discuss the somewhat divisive end to the series, and several other sensitive topics along the lines of ugly shirts and BL themes. We also talk a bit about the bonus short stories, and give recommendations about other series to read. The Banana Fish roundtables are always a lot of fun, but this one in particular was great, and a wonderful way to end the discussion. Hopefully we’ve convinced a few people to check the series out!
Manga Village Rountable: Tokyopop – A Long Goodbye
Posted: April 30, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites Leave a comment »It’s been an eventful couple of weeks in the world of manga news, and we take a look at what will likely be one of the biggest stories this year, the shutdown of Tokyopop’s US publishing division, over at Manga Village.
As always, it’s interesting to see personal opinions and views of a company and its titles, and the roundtable is a really good format for this. Check it out over at Manga Village.
MMF: Rumiko Takahashi Roundtable at Manga Village
Posted: April 30, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites, Manga Moveable Feast Leave a comment »To celebrate the Rumiko Takahashi-centric Manga Moveable Feast this month, hosted by Rob over at Panel Patter, we took the opportunity to do a roundtable over at Manga Village that looks at Takahashi as a gateway into manga fandom for us. Check it out over at Manga Village.
I talked about it a little bit here already, but I go into more detail during the roundtable, plus I get to talk about Mermaid Saga some more, which is never a bad thing. Also, Rin-ne makes for a good point of contention.
Manga Village New Release Picks for 3/23/11
Posted: March 26, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites Leave a comment »I should link to these more often here (and may do so in a series of post-dated posts), but I have a lot of fun every week choosing my choice from the week’s new stuff over at Manga Village. Check out the choices over there.
I actually read a volume of the same series today. It’s good stuff.
Breaking Down Banana Fish, vols. 14-16
Posted: March 26, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites 2 Comments »We re-convened for another chat about Banana Fish over at the Manga Bookshelf, so join Melinda, Michelle, Eva, Khursten, Robin, and I as we discuss what is quite literally my favorite part of the series. Check it out over there.
Seriously. Few things give me joy like that Museum of Natural History fight. I have no idea why that is plausible to me, but the war that takes place in the city streets immediately after is not. What a great series.
Moveable Manga Feast: Aria Roundtable at Manga Village
Posted: March 26, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites, Manga Moveable Feast Leave a comment »This month’s Manga Moveable Feast focuses on the series Aqua/Aria, the story of an apprentice gondola operator named Akari and her ceaseless awe of the city around her. We did a roundtable over at Manga Village that takes a look at the series, so check it out over there.
This is a fun series (Aqua is a seamless prequel to the longer Aria), and prior to this roundtable, I hadn’t read a volume in quite some time. The MMF also gave me an opportunity to dust off and read volume 6, the most recent volume from Tokyopop, so I’ll probably be talking about that here tonight as well. Fun stuff!
Breaking Down Banana Fish, vols 11-13
Posted: February 17, 2011 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites 2 Comments »I’ve been quite ill this week, so unfortunately I’m late in posting the newest Banana Fish roundtable where Melinda, Michelle, Eva, Khursten, Robin, and I discuss the series further and look at Yut-Lung, the new hitman/mentor Blanca, Ash, and, of course, Ash and Eiji. Check it out over at the Manga Bookshelf.
Breaking Down Banana Fish, vols 9-10
Posted: November 28, 2010 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites Leave a comment »Once again, I am part of the roundtable that discusses everything awesome about Banana Fish, and you can read our thoughts on volumes 9 and 10 over at The Manga Bookshelf.
I get more and more excited as these continue, because the action scenes just keep getting more insane, starting with this Arthur duel, it doesn’t stop until the end. There’s some wonderful discussion here, and I’m looking forward to the future, too. It’s worth tracking down volumes of this series, it really is all sorts of wonderful.

Hmm. I don’t think my volume of Kizuna has arrived yet. How odd. I could just read volume 2 of Viewfinder, but man… that series grossed me out. And that was, like, three or four years ago at this point.

Posted: October 26, 2010 Filed under: Articles on Other Sites Leave a comment »I’m once again behind on linking these over here, but to check out my picks of the new releases for the week of September 29th, look no further than Manga Village.
I just got Demon Sacred in the mail on Saturday. I’m pretty excited about it, actually. I probably won’t get to it this week (it being Halloween week, I’ll probably try reading some of the scarier entries in my backlog), but all the same, expect it soon. I loved Jyu-Oh-Sei, and this series sounds pretty great.
