Breaking Down Banana Fish, vols 17-19 (end)

Once again, Melinda, Michelle, Eva, Khursten, Robin and I meet to talk about Banana Fish, and this time we reach the final three volumes of the series. Check it out over at the Manga Bookshelf.

We discuss the somewhat divisive end to the series, and several other sensitive topics along the lines of ugly shirts and BL themes. We also talk a bit about the bonus short stories, and give recommendations about other series to read. The Banana Fish roundtables are always a lot of fun, but this one in particular was great, and a wonderful way to end the discussion. Hopefully we’ve convinced a few people to check the series out!

Manga Village Rountable: Tokyopop – A Long Goodbye

It’s been an eventful couple of weeks in the world of manga news, and we take a look at what will likely be one of the biggest stories this year, the shutdown of Tokyopop’s US publishing division, over at Manga Village.

Seriously. Few things give me joy like that Museum of Natural History fight. I have no idea why that is plausible to me, but the war that takes place in the city streets immediately after is not. What a great series.

I’ve been quite ill this week, so unfortunately I’m late in posting the newest Banana Fish roundtable where Melinda, Michelle, Eva, Khursten, Robin, and I discuss the series further and look at Yut-Lung, the new hitman/mentor Blanca, Ash, and, of course, Ash and Eiji. Breaking Down Banana Fish, vols 9-10

Once again, I am part of the roundtable that discusses everything awesome about Banana Fish, and you can read our thoughts on volumes 9 and 10 over at The Manga Bookshelf.

I get more and more excited as these continue, because the action scenes just keep getting more insane, starting with this Arthur duel, it doesn’t stop until the end. There’s some wonderful discussion here, and I’m looking forward to the future, too. It’s worth tracking down volumes of this series, it really is all sorts of wonderful.

Manga Village Pics 10/6/10

Hmm. I don’t think my volume of Kizuna has arrived yet. How odd. I could just read volume 2 of Viewfinder, but man… that series grossed me out. And that was, like, three or four years ago at this point.

Manga Village Pics 9/29/10

I’m once again behind on linking these over here, but to check out my picks of the new releases for the week of September 29th, look no further than Manga Village.

I just got Demon Sacred in the mail on Saturday. I’m pretty excited about it, actually. I probably won’t get to it this week (it being Halloween week, I’ll probably try reading some of the scarier entries in my backlog), but all the same, expect it soon. I loved Jyu-Oh-Sei, and this series sounds pretty great.
