I’ll change the category if the other five goddamn prequels to this ever get licensed, but for now we have the last volume in the Orochi series.
Hey, Viz! Thanks for telling me all about Japan’s master of horror manga, how important he is, and how great his horror stories are! HOW ABOUT GIVING US SOME OF HIS HORROR MANGA, HUH? edit: I have no idea why I was so rough on my critique of this as a horror comic. it’s a mystery/suspense, but it works as horror in the same way that… well, there’s not really a lot of violence, and that’s my criteria. I don’t know. At the time, I liked Hino. I shouldn’t have compared it to Hideshi Hino, they’re just different is all.
This is not horror. I was disgusted. After I recovered from my initial disgust, I realized that otherwise the story’s quite interesting. It had me guessing right up until the end, and it was a pretty good one-shot with a really interesting and limited cast of characters. I also appreciated the extra bits about Umezu Viz extensively outlined in the back. But was it worth the seventeen dollar retail price I paid for it? No. ‘Twas cool, though.
