Boy Princess 2

July 11, 2006

The character designs still look the same (and I mean EVERY CHARACTER DESIGN except two), but at least we begin to understand who all the characters are. I understand who everyone in Nicole’s family is now, and I’m beginning to figure out the other family too, but that’s still kind of a grey area for me. At least I understand the three main member’s motives a little better.

I was kinda disappointed that Nicole’s exploits ended so soon, but I’m glad to see romance spring up elsewhere, and I’m also glad to see that everyone’s still carrying their various torches. I don’t actually like the real Elana much, she’s kind of a bitch out to ruin everyone’s day. I was disappointed by the plot stuff, but it wasn’t bad. As a matter of fact, I’m kinda hooked, and I’ll be glad to have the next volume in my hands. Here’s hoping the artwork gets a lot better, because I do like the plot so far even though a lot of it is still mired in… incomprehensibility. And that says a lot, because I do not tolerate ambiguous character designs or unexplained plot complexities in something I’m not absolutely set on loving.

Yea..this was a crash and burn for me. I struggled to understand in the first volume and did ok but this volume blew me away. It seems like events are flying by like being thrown hastily from one scene to another. Another thing is that this volume doesn’t stay in any one scene long so you never really get the chance to understand it well.

Overall…I can’t finish this series..I’ve simply gave up on this all together. I didn’t even finish this volume because I had no clue what was going on and why it was happening. I couldn’t even go with the flow and catch bits and pieces. This just made my head hurt.

I unfortunately got all the way through it. It gets a ton of praise in some places, but I honestly was furious at the end of the series because I still COULD NOT tell what was going on, and I never figured out the stuff with the apothecaries, and it was just frustrating to read and have all this stuff happen and not know who anybody was or what was going on. Her other series, “Devil’s Bride,” seems much better so far, but only the first volume is available. I’m going to need at least three volumes of that series before I’m convinced it’s good, given all the flaws this one had.

I probably won’t continue buying this series, maybe I’ll read in online. But I must say the second volume was a real turn-pager. Interesting story, just too gay for me.. ;-)
