Innocent Bird 3
January 12, 2008
HOLY CRAP VIZ LICENSED CAT-EYED BOY. It seems like it’s not just any Cat-Eyed Boy, though. It looks like it’s two huge volumes (at least a high page count, and also a high price, so I suspect a big trim size too), which suggests it may bear a resemblance to the Umezz Perfection edition. I hope so. Thank you, Right Stuff Viz sale!
Not that Cat-Eyed Boy has anything to do with Innocent Bird. My interest in this series was not piqued with this final volume, unfortunately. There’s a battle between an angel and a demon who turn out to be lovers from a long time ago, and of course they’ve loved each other ever since. Yawn. Heaven has to come down hard on the two main characters, because despite his promotion last volume, the angel is still in violation of some rule of heaven or other. Ho-hum. Turns out God isn’t even in charge of heaven, and the angels that run things are trying to reboot God and make heaven in their own image. This isn’t nearly as dramatic as it could have been, unfortunately.
The angel and former devil finally declare their undying love for one another, and there is a sex scene. It’s one of those vague, whited out yaoi sex scenes you can expect from the more non-explicit titles, so it doesn’t even really have that going for it.
What was the only thing this volume had going for it? It wound up slashing Judas and Jesus. That’s right: Jesus is gay in this manga series. Once again, the mind boggles.
