Alice in the Country of Clover: Cheshire Cat Waltz 1

Meh, maybe I should slow down on reading these. They all have kind of similar structures. The Clover series are at least a little more interesting, because it assumes familiarity with the plot of Hearts and doesn’t have to re-explain everything. They do seem to explain that Alice is moving into the Country of Clover, but at least the explanation is simple.
This particular series is, of course, in the Country of Clover, and Alice courts Boris the Cheshire Cat. Which, again, if you’re into these, that’s all you need to know, and if you aren’t… the original series is awesome, and you should start there. But I have high hopes for a couple of these longer spin-offs. I’m hoping it blazes at least a little new ground, story or character-wise.
Boris is, at least, a slightly more interesting character since he tends not to star heavily in the other spin-offs I’ve read. But so far he pretty much acts the same as all the other guys, crazy into Alice when she’s not so much/maybe only sorta into them. At least Boris has an interesting skill in that he can go wherever he wants to (in the Country of Clover, this means the doors take him wherever he wants). He is also a bit less of a killer, though he does get into a couple gun battles here, which Alice gets upset about, and he doesn’t seem to understand the concept of death, which Alice gets upset about… just like all the other guys.
But what can I say. I like shoujo manga, and I like this series. And at seven volumes, something else has to happen. I’m hoping we got all the regular stuff out of the way with this volume, and we can get more into the other stuff next time.
